Biden: No breakthroughs from Putin visit despite talks over Ukraine

Vice President Joe Biden said Sunday that talks with Russia President Vladimir Putin over his nation’s occupation of Ukrainian lands produced “no breakthroughs” in recent months, despite Russia banning American imports of beef, pork and poultry in a retaliatory action.

“I can report to you today that the meeting with President Putin was very constructive, was mostly verbal,” Biden said during a taping of CNN’s “State of the Union.” “He asked me about the economy, and then I asked him about the economy. I mean, I really saw no breakthroughs.”

Biden’s meeting with Putin on Saturday came the same day Ukraine called off a plan to remove a column of Russian tanks and armored vehicles in the rebel-held town of Luhansk, citing “credible” reports that the military equipment was still there.
