Now we know: Prince William is excited about smartwatches

Having spent nearly half his life in the public eye, Prince William was no stranger to doing a royal event in a suit. But when the young heir to the throne, who is now the second-in-line to the throne, strapped on his Apple Watch in 2015, he surprised even himself.

“It’s incredibly personal,” he told the BBC in 2014. “You think about your diary and what people do at lunch. And I suddenly think, I’ve got a pinny now. And then I’ve got my watch and my iPad and I’m wearing one-size-fits-all outfits.”

“It’s incredibly personal,” he told the BBC in 2014. “You think about your diary and what people do at lunch. And I suddenly think, I’ve got a pinny now. And then I’ve got my watch and my iPad and I’m wearing one-size-fits-all outfits.”

Soon after, he admitted to being surprised by how intuitive the smartwatch was. “Just three months in I was like, ‘This is amazing!’ It just felt natural,” he told the Telegraph. “You lose track of time.”

Could this be a sign the royal family is prepared to eventually get on board with smartwatches? Since Prince William isn’t the official spokesman for Apple, there’s no way of knowing for sure.

However, not only has the heir to the throne been enthusiastic about smartwatches, he’s also met with company executives and reportedly went through an Apple tutorial along with a select group of reporters.

“I feel very lucky and I’m very grateful,” he told the Telegraph in 2014. “For someone from a family who never really worked outside the house, it’s been good to show them the new opportunities out there.”

Now that’s most unexpected resume perk ever.
